Hummingbird Plantings
Hummingbirds were called "glittering garments of the rainbow" by naturalist John J. Audubon. In fact, these little gems really are sparkling jewels in your garden if you are fortunate enough to have them feeding there.
Many people who enjoy hummingbirds, like to put out hummingbird feeders. Feeders are great, but by adding some plants to your garden that hummingbirds enjoy, you'll attract even more and keep them longer.
Here are a few of the kinds of plants that hummingbirds are especially attracted to:
Annuals: Egyptian Star Flower, Egyptian Star Flower, Flowering Tobacco, Four-o'-clocks, Petunia, Spider Flower and Zinnia.
Perennials: Bee Balm, Butterfly Weed, Canterbury Bells, Columbine, Foxglove and Scarlet Sage.
Shrubs: Bluebeard, Butterfly Bush, hibiscus, Japanese Flowering Quince, Rosemary and Wiegela.
Vines: Bougainvillea, Cardinal Climber, Flame Vine, Morning Glory, Trumpet Honeysuckle and Trumpet Vine.
These are just a few of the plants that will attract hummingbirds. Basically, if you plant so that you continually have something blooming all through the season, you'll keep hummingbirds busily feeding in your garden all season long.
